The Third Day of the RISE Project Training Week Concludes

Within the framework of the Training Week activities of the RISE Project, and with the participation of universities from the Kurdistan Region—includingDuhok Polytechnic University, Akre University for Applied Sciences, University of Duhok, University of Zakho, Erbil Polytechnic University, Sulaimani Polytechnic University, and Garmian University—and in coordination with the University of Murcia (Spain), the activities continued in the city of Rome. The third day was dedicated to the theme of “University Internationalisation” as a practical and inclusive approach that places students at the center of preparation and capacity building.
The day began with discussions on key themes alongside the delivery of scientific seminars. Two sessions were presented by the Union for the Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED), focusing on the concept of Internationalisation at Home. Anne-Laurence Pastorini, Senior Project Manager, highlighted the importance of embedding international perspectives within daily teaching and learning processes. In addition, Nathalie Cloutier, Senior Project Manager, addressed sustainability as a global value, emphasizing the role of academic Internationalisation as an effective means of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the second part of the day, practical experiences were showcased at the International University of Rome (UNINT). Academic and administrative staff presented several successful administrative and academic models, including mechanisms for recognition and accreditation of qualifications. Moreover, Luciano Nedo, Vice Rector for International Relations, discussed fair and transparent procedures for the assessment and recognition of learning experiences.
From another perspective, Federica Di Matteo, Student Support Officer, emphasized the significance of the Buddy Program and its role in facilitating student integration, cooperation, mutual support, and peer learning. Likewise, Giulia Di Vito addressed the development of language competencies, underscoring that language proficiency is a key enabler for effective participation in internationalisation initiatives.
Regarding the theme of linking universities with the labor market, representatives of the participating universities held a meeting with the Career Development Center (CDC). During this session, Manuela Costa explained how universities can better prepare students for the labor market by equipping them with relevant skills aligned with suitable employment opportunities.
In conclusion, and as part of the cultural activities aimed at enhancing participants’ understanding of Italian culture, the training week participants visited St. Peter’s Basilica in the heart of Rome, which is considered one of the most significant religious, historical, and cultural landmarks in Italy.
