Workshop on Green Skills Diagnosis in the Kurdistan Region of iraq


As part of international cooperation in the field of developing green skills, Asst. Lecturer, Semyan Omed Khaled, Head of the Department of Mechanics and Renewable Energy at the Duhok Technical Institute, represented Duhok Polytechnic University in a specialized workshop titled Green Skills Diagnosis in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq
The workshop was organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO),supported by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and was held in Erbil.

The workshop was conducted over three days, from 24 November 2025 to 27 November 2025, with the participation of several international experts, representatives of vocational training institutions, technical institutes, government departments, and the private sector.
The aim of the workshop was to shed light on the current status of green skills required in the labor market, particularly in sectors related to the green economy such as renewable energy, waste management, smart agriculture, and sustainable technical professions.

The workshop sessions focused on the important role of technical and engineering departments and vocational training institutions in empowering youth, developing their practical skills, and aligning education and training with private-sector needs so that graduates are well-prepared to enter green job fields efficiently.

Key outcomes of the workshop:

  • Identifying skill gaps in green sectors and the current needs of the labor market.
  • Providing recommendations for developing training programs and increasing practical components within technical institutes.
  • Strengthening cooperation between educational institutions and the private sector to ensure practical training and real job opportunities for youth in green economy fields.
