About the Department

The Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) department at Zakho Technical Institute was established in the 2006-2007 academic year. The program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to become proficient Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs), playing a crucial role in assisting laboratory physicians in various fields such as Hematopathology, Phlebotomy, Biochemistry, Immunology and Serology, and Microbiology.

MLTs are responsible for conducting diagnostic tests, operating medical laboratory equipment, interpreting results, and preparing samples for testing.

Key Responsibilities of Medical Laboratory Technicians:

  • Conducting analyses of bodily fluids like blood and urine.
  • Maintaining and calibrating medical laboratory equipment.
  • Analyzing and interpreting test results to assist in medical diagnoses.
  • Collecting and preparing samples for testing (fluids or tissues).
