The Delegation of the Ministry of Higher Education Has Successfully Returned from the United States
A Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research delegation consisting of directors of the Career Development Centers and teachers of polytechnic universities successfully returned from the United States.
Regarding this visit, the representative of Duhok Polytechnic University, Mr Bewar Sulaiman Haji, Director of the Career Development Center, stated: On 10th of April 2023, we, as a delegation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, including of directors of the Career Development Centers and teachers from three KRI Polytechnic Universities visited the United States to learn and exchange information on how to establish and manage Industry Advisory Boards effectively and sustainably. Furthermore, to develop the delegates' capacities and exchange information and expertise with representatives of the industry sectors, technical colleges, universities, and government agencies through workshops and meetings and benefiting from the experience and expertise of the United States. Mr Bewar also said that during this visit, the delegation of the Ministry met with several government and private sector institutions in Washington and Nashville, Tennessee. He emphasized that the establishment of industrial advisory boards will create and strengthen the relationship between the institutions of the Ministry of Higher Education, government institutions, and the private sector for the sake of updating educational programs based on the private sector and the labour market needs which will contribute to the creation of more job opportunities and mutual benefits.
Finally, the Director of the Career Development Center at Duhok Polytechnic University said: During this visit, we met with the representatives of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Washington D.C., including Ms Bayan Sami Abdulrahman, Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in the United States, Mr Dilovan Barwari, Director of Public and Academic Affairs, Ms Tara Hamawandi, Director of Staff, and Dr Hunar Isa, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the American University of Kurdistan; who has an important role in our meetings in Washington D.C.
It is worth mentioning that the IREX organization organized the visit in collaboration with the Tennessee Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (TICUA). The establishment of the industry advisory boards is part of a joint program of the Department of Higher Education and Scientific Research with the United States Government, sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and managed by the IREX organization.
