- The MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY (MLT) is one of the sections of Zakho Technical Institute was founded in 2006-2007. The programs of the department aim to train the students to become Medical Laboratory Technicians and provide test information to physicians, pathologists, researchers, and other healthcare providers by conducting a variety of tests on various specimens submitted to clinical laboratories.
Responsibilities of a medical laboratory technician included:
- Conducting analyses of bodily fluids.
- Maintaining medical laboratory equipment.
- Analyzing test results.
- Collecting samples (fluid or tissue) from patients.
Medical laboratory technicians perform general tests in all laboratory areas such as blood bank, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology. MLT's may perform laboratory testing in many clinical settings such as hospitals, reference laboratories, clinics, and bioscience industry.
Students who finish his/her studies in two years will get a diploma (laboratory assistant) in Medical Laboratory Technology, clinical pathology technician, and be eligible to work in the Ministry of Health, Ministry of higher education and the Ministry of Defense medical department.

The Mission
The Section is looking to develop students' skills to be able to use modern equipment to get to the accurate results in the diagnosis of diseases in the community.
