Micro-Internship Program 2021 has concluded
On Thursday, 18th of November 2021, the Career Development Center (CDC) participated in the Micro-Internship Program 2021 virtual closing ceremony. The Program is organised by the IREX organisation and in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with the support of the General Consulate of the United States of America in Iraq. The ceremony was conducted in the presence of students who participated in the Program, CDC directors and staff, representatives of the Ministry of the Higher Education and Scientific Research and the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil, private sector representatives & employers, and IREXs' officials and employees.
In July 2020, IREX discussed the virtual Micro-Internship Program with CDC centers and private sectors' representatives as an alternative for the regular Internship Program, which was implemented in the past few years. Due to the Corona Virus pandemic and its risk on students and private sector's employees, all parties agreed that the best solution is a virtual Micro-Internship.
It is worth mentioning that 762 students, 18 public and private universities across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, and 102 hosting private sector companies and NGOs participated in the Program. From the Duhok Polytechnic University, 20 final-year students from different departments participated in the Program by training with five companies and organisations: GK-Auto – Duhok, AsiaCell, Hunt Oil Middle East Limited, IREX, and Rwanga Foundation.
It should be noted that the Internship Program is a specialised program that aims to help students to get the chance to train with the private sector companies and NGOs to foster their practical experiences. The Program is managed and supervised by the IREX organisation in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in KRI, and It has its instructions regarding the process of participation and assessment.
